How to Use MSM for Hair Growth

One of the things I get asked about the most is how to actually use MSM. Should you drink it? Put it in your oils? Use it on your scalp? How much do you take? Why does it taste like that? 😅
So let's talk because MSM is genuinely one of the most powerful additions you can make to your hair routine when it’s used the right way and I want to help you to make that happen.
Before we get into the “how”, let’s quickly touch on the “why”. MSM is a sulphur-rich compound, and sulphur is a key building block of keratin, which is what our hair is made of. That’s why so many people notice faster growth, stronger strands, reduced shedding, healthier nails and even glowing skin when they start using it consistently. It works from the inside out, supporting the body in a way that shows up in your hair.

Taking MSM Internally
The first and most popular way to use MSM is internally. We have two options for this: the vegan pure MSM (CP Mane Max MSM) and the CP Mane Max MSM with Collagen and Vitamin C. The blend with collagen contains a bovine collagen and a magnesium ascorbate form of Vitamin C, and this is amazing for those of you dealing with stress or stress-induced hair loss. The Vitamin C also helps to boost absorption, which means you’re getting more out of your MSM.
Whichever one you choose, the key is to start low and build slowly. Begin with a quarter of a scoop (using the spoon provided) and increase gradually week by week. This gives your body time to adjust, helps you avoid overwhelming your system, and actually allows you to keep seeing results for longer before you reach a plateau.
If you’re ingesting the pure MSM, I always suggest adding it to orange juice. It naturally has a bit of a taste, whilst the MSM blend, the flavour is much more muted .
Using MSM as a Scalp “Hair Tea”
The second way to use MSM is topically, and this is one of my favourite methods because it delivers sulphur directly to the follicles. All you need to do is dissolve about a quarter to half a teaspoon of MSM in 100ml of water. If you want to take it up a notch, you can do 50ml of aloe vera juice and 50ml of water instead. This gets spritzed directly onto the scalp, giving your follicles instant delivery of nutrients. Your scalp will absolutely drink this up.
One thing to keep in mind is that MSM can speed up hair growth everywhere; including your body. If you’re someone who deals with hormonal facial hair and you don’t want to stimulate that internally, this topical method is a perfect option because it keeps the focus purely on your scalp.
Infusing MSM into Your Oils

The third way to incorporate MSM into your routine is by adding it to your favourite oils. Think coconut oil or a rich Ayurvedic oil that already contains powerful hair-growing herbs like amla or fenugreek.
MSM isn’t oil-soluble, so what you’re doing here is more of an infusion and it works beautifully for topical use. Once applied to the scalp, you’re layering the benefits of your growth oils with that sulphur support from the MSM, and it becomes a really lovely addition to your routine.
Don’t Forget the Water
One last thing and this is important, MSM is detoxifying, and if you’re not drinking enough water while using it, you can end up with headaches. So please make sure you’re increasing your water intake. ]
MSM doesn’t have to be confusing, and it definitely doesn’t have to be intimidating. Whether you take it internally, use it as a scalp treatment, infuse it into your oils, or do a combination of all three, the key is consistency and listening to your body.
I really hope this has helped you feel more confident about how to use it in a way that suits your routine and your goals.
And as always, I’d love to hear from you… how are you using your MSM? Have you found a method that you absolutely swear by?
Switching to spraying it! My chin hair has been crazy! Thank you!
