Using the Curly Proverbz Line during postpartum shedding

Many new moms notice hair loss – sometimes quite dramatic – around three months postpartum. This is a normal and typically temporary. We usually have around 85-95% of our hair in the growth phase at any point in time, but the hormonal changes during pregnancy stimulate an increase in the percentage of hairs in the growth phase. As a result, many women enjoy thicker hair during pregnancy, as more hairs than normal are growing and fewer than normal are resting/shedding.

With the birth of your baby (and the hormonal changes that accompany birth), a larger number of hairs than normal enter the resting phase. Since the resting phase is followed by hair shedding (and regrowth), new mothers will experience greater than normal hair loss once the resting phase ends. In many cases the drastic hair loss can be significantly slowed with the use of teas and rinses.

As such we would recommend using the Henna Pro Strength Powder as a rinse or tea. Steep a teaspoon of henna overnight in 1 cup of hot water. You may add a tea bag of regular tea or green tea to further enhance the anti shedding properties. Pour off the resulting tea and rinse your hair after washing or spritz from roots to ends 3 times a week. Be sure to keep the tea in the fridge and discard in a week. Alternatively you may use the Henna Pro Strength Powder or Henna Aloe masque as a hair mask, ensuring massage into the scalp upon application to strengthen roots. The Elixir can be applied on alternative days to hydrate and further nourish the roots.
